With a cold winter forecast for 2011, RDC staff rallied behind the social investment committee and helped raise blankets for all 215 of the orphaned and vulnerable learners at Mayebuye Primary.

The blankets were delivered in early May, just in time for the first cold spell.

RDC has adopted the Mayebuye Primary School in Rabie Ridge Midrand through the Adopt-a-School Foundation (www.adoptaschool.co.za)

This is a school that services the surrounding informal settlement and has a high number of Aids orphans on their register. There are plans afoot to provide the school with a fully equipped computer room. This will ensure that learners receive a jumpstart at acquiring the necessary skills to survive in today’s technology-driven world.

The more immediate needs of the school that have already been met are: uniforms for the netball and soccer teams, an extra bed and linen for the school sickbay and additional reading material for the school’s library.
